IELTS General Training is meant for those who are applying for secondary education, professionals seeking work experience and people seeking immigration in some countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK.

What is IELTS General Training?

The IELTS General Training test measures your English proficiency in everyday, practical contexts. It is ideal for candidates planning to:

  • Pursue studies in high school or vocational training programs.
  • Migrate to countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or the UK.

IELTS General Training Test Format

The test consists of four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

  1. Listening, Reading, and Writing:
    • Conducted on the same day without breaks.
  2. Speaking:
    • May occur on the same day or up to a week before/after the test date.
    • Candidates can book their Speaking test slot online within the given time period, or a slot will be automatically allocated.

Test Sections

Section Duration Details
Listening 30 minutes Listen to four recordings and answer questions. Recordings feature native English speakers.
Reading 60 minutes Answer 40 questions testing skills like skimming, gist reading, logical arguments, and more.
Writing 60 minutes Complete two tasks on general-interest topics based on your chosen module.
Speaking 11–14 minutes A three-part spoken test assessing your spoken English skills. The test is recorded.
